An Icecast mountpoint is a specific location on an Icecast server where a particular audio stream can be accessed. It works similar to how a file system organizes files in folders and subfolders, e.g. your website might have www.example.com/home and www.example.com/about although they are on the same server they are different pages / content and this philosophy also applies to an Icecast server. A mountpoint is essentially a unique "folder" on the server where a specific audio stream is "stored."

Each mountpoint has its own unique URL, which listeners can use to access the audio stream. For example, if the Icecast server's address is "http://stream1.hippynet.co.uk:8000" and the mountpoint is "/live", then the full URL to access the audio stream would be "http://stream1.hippynet.co.uk:8000/live".

Icecast supports multiple mountpoints, so you can have multiple audio streams running on the same server, each with its own unique URL. This is useful if you want to run multiple radio stations or streams on the same server, or if you want to have different audio streams for different audiences or purposes. You could for example have a main feed on /stream and a mobile feed that is a lower quality of audio on /mobile

You can configure the mountpoint from the Icecast server's config file and via the control panels that we offer as part of our Streaming Packages, and you will have to specify the type of the stream (audio/ogg, audio/mp3, etc.) and the source of the stream, in most cases this is the hostname and the port of the streaming software or encoder that you are using.
